Well folks, we are less than 24 hrs away from Irene making first landfall in North Carolina. After seeing all the weather models through out the day, I believe I have enough evidence to make my final track and it is linked below.
View My prediction for Hurricane Irene in a larger map
Unlike most of the media, I do believe that it will stay at Cat 2 all the way till landfall and do believe it will maintain it all the way until pass our area. So with a track like this, we can now imagine big impacts to the area. But how big?
Blue= 5-10" of rain, at least tropical storm winds (<39mph sustained) and power out for days with a lot of flooding as well.
Green= 10"+ of rain because it is just west of where the eye will pass. Tropical storm winds to even potentially hurricane force winds (mainly along coast). Numerous power outages with flooding through out the region. Wouldn't be shocked to see road closures and power out for days. Low lying areas should evacuate at once or head to higher ground if you can't evacuated. Storm Surge will also be huge for residents along the coastline in these regions.
Red=10"+ of rain and also hurricane force winds likely. Storm surge will impact everyone in the area and combine with flooding could be very catastrophic. If you have not evacuated from this area, please find shelter well away from the ocean as major damage can result. Power to be out for days, maybe a week and beaches and islands along this area will probably be wiped out or close to being so.
I urge everyone around the state to make sure you have food, water, flashlights, a NOAA weather hazards radio incase power goes out, and a good place to stay in the house away from windows and flooding problems. If you still have not gotten supplies, well then try to get them asap cause many stores are running out of supplies. Please take out any loose objects you might have outside as conditions might force it to fly and cause damage elsewhere. I will go through more of this later on in the day but since I'm posting this late, I'll let everyone go to sleep. PLEASE TAKE THIS STORM SERIOUSLY. A HURRICANE LIKE THIS HASN'T STRUCK THE AREA IN YEARS SO PLEASE DO WHATEVER IT TAKES TO KEEP YOU AND YOUR FAMILY SAFE!!!!! Goodnight everyone and be prepared!
