First call/discussion of tomorrow night-Thursday storm

Posted by Renato on January 26, 2011 at 12:30 AM

Well this is a really tough forecast for me to do, but I have to do it anyway.

A coastal low is developing over the Gulf and will come up the coast tomorrow and impact our area from the evening hours into about sunrise (5-6AM). This particular low will be east of the area, but it is what’s behind it that will mean a good snowstorm to many. Models are a little too inconsistent for me to put my faith into one particular model, but I am leaning a bit towards the 00z GFS solution (which gave the area near 1” of QPF). So here is my snow map below:Image and video hosting by TinyPic

Green=Rain for most of the storm, with snow during the end.Sloppy 1-3”

Light Blue=Mixed bag of precip turned into all snow duringthe height of the storm. Heaviest qpf will lie around the area so I will gowith this area as one of the jackpots. 12”+

Light Purple= All snow but with not a lot of precipitation here, 4-8”.

Dark Gray= Another potential jackpot here as I do feel heaviest qpf might also shift into Central and Northeastern NJ. 6-12” with some potential for more but confidence isn’t high yet.

Timeline and final call to come out tomorrow. Good night to all!
