Big time storm to come next week! A big factor will be temperatures?

Hello everyone and welcome back to another edition of the blog.

We have another potential snowstorm to deal with and thisone has the potential to be as big as the Dec 26-27th storm (also known as the Boxing Day storm of 2010). It seems like the main area of concern from the weather models point of view would be the temperatures. As crazy as this sounds, we might actually go from near 0 degree temperatures to near above freezing temperatures in just a day or two. That is because there is high pressure projected to be north of us during the weekend but then move eastward as the storm starts coming up the coast. If you remember from the ice storm, we had warm air enter the area because we had high pressure offshore. But on the latest 00z GFS model, it does show another high moving down from Canada and actually keeps the area near or below freezing for the storm. The storm on the GFS is 200 miles to the east of us, but it has so much moisture that we still get near .75 QPF or about 8 inches of snowfall.

At this point, we do know that it will be a major storm with a lot of gulf moisture in tact with it (Miller A system). The timeframe of this storm has been varying a bit but looks more and more likely that it might be pushed back a day or two into the Wednesday night-Thursday timeframe. But the rest of the details, I can’t even predict yet because of the huge uncertainty involved in this storm. I will update again tomorrow. Goodnight to all!
