Snow Map for 1/11-1/12 storm

Posted by Renato on January 11, 2011 at 11:57 AM

Sorry I could not post my snow map last night as I went to bed much earlier than what I expected. But, looking at the weather models from last night and today, a couple of things have come in mind.

1.) Looks like the heaviest snowfall will happen around the Long Island and New England region. Someone in that area can get totals justlike our area did for the 12/26 storm. Still possible that the storm is stronger and a little further west, which could bring the heaviest precip to our area.

2.) GFS model still remains an outlier to the rest of themodels in terms of precipitation as it only gives the area 3-6” of snow.

3.) Whoever is on the western axis of this storm will probably get shafted in terms of snowfall totals as people east of those areas could see 12”+ while they see only 3-6”.

Timeline for the storm:

7-8PM: Snow arrives in the area

12AM-5AM: Heaviest of snows are impacting the area

6AM: Snow starting to depart the area

7-8AM: Snow is done

So we are looking at a quick storm here but since it is, we can also see times of 1-2”/hr rates of snow coming and maybe even some thundersnow as well. Winds will not be as high as last time, but we can still see 20-25 mph gusts.

Dark Gray=6-12"+(more as you head east)

Lighter Gray=4-8”

Lightest Gray=3-6” due to mixing concerns and lighter precip

And yes for you people wanting a snow day tomorrow, if you are not in Extreme Southern NJ, then chances are pretty good for one. I will make a special school closings section for the storm, so if you want me to post your school on my blog, contact me via commenting the post or any of my otherways of contacting me(email, aim, facebook, text, etc….).
